To calculate how many rolls of wallpaper you need:
1. Measure the height of the ceiling
2. Measure the length of the walls around the room, including any doors and windows
3. Refer to the chart below to determine the number of rolls.
PLEASE NOTE: This chart is provided only as a guide. Additional rolls may be required if patterns are being matched. Alternatively, bring you measurements into PaintZone and one of our experienced staff members can help you figure out how many rolls you’ll need.

Make sure the area that you will be wallpapering is dry and cleaned to remove dust, grease and grime
If the area is freshly painted, allow at least 4 weeks for the paint to cure
Do not hang wallpaper on suede or textured areas

Previously painted surfaces
Check that existing paint is sound, if the paint is bubbling or peeling, a thorough sand is required to remove any loose paint
If existing paint is in a sound condition, only a light sand is required
Clean any dust and apply a coat of oil undercoat
When dry, sand with 80 grit sandpaper
Clean any dust and apply a coat of wallpaper size and allow to dry for 24 hours

The most common wallpapers come in rolls that are 52cm wide and 10m long. However there are other sizes so check the paper before doing any calculations
Also, some patterns have what's called a pattern repeat, this means that each drop of paper requires you to include this repeat in your measurements for each drop. All papers have different pattern repeats so please check the individual paper.
Never cut the whole roll at once, always cut each drop just before hanging.
To measure where the next cut on the roll should be, place the paper along side the previous hang and match the pattern, this normally means that a fair bit of the paper is wasted, but this has to be done to match the patter across the wall.
Always allow at least 5 to 10cm extra when cutting the drops, this is especially important when there is no pattern repeat.
To cut the paper to the exact size of the wall, hang the paper first, then when all the drops are hung, use a straight edge and an extremely sharp knife to cut along the top and bottom of the wallpaper.

Each wallpaper / border has different hanging instructions, so check the pack for the correct instructions. The staff at PaintZone can help with determining the best method of application.
Before beginning to hang any wallpaper, it is important to gauge where the first drop will sit on the wall. Ensuring you get the first drop 100% correct will ensure all following drops will be correct. If the first drop is crooked, then the rest of the drops will be crooked as well. To make sure you get a straight drop - when wallpapering ALL the walls in a room, use a plum bob to draw a straight line down the wall. The best place for the line is where the first drop will end. For example, measure the width of the paper you are hanging (eg. 52cm), then measure 52cm in from the corner of the wall, this is where the line should be.
Please note: Do not use the corners of walls to get a straight line as most walls are not 100% straight.

Pre-Pasted
Once you have cut the paper to the size needed for the drop, immerse the paper in a wallpaper trough for at least 15 seconds.
Draw the paper out of the trough slowly and lay it flat, paste side up, on a plastic drop sheet, a table with a drop sheet over it is the best thing to use. With your hands, spread the water over the whole paper, ensuring the paper is fully wetted.
Fold each end into the center so that the pasted sides are folded onto itself. This slows drying time of the glue and allows easier transport to the wall.
Allow the paper to sit for at least 3 minutes, this allows the paper to relax and expand fully.
Place the wallpaper on the wall starting from the top down. Make sure you follow the plum bob line.
To make the paper stick to the wall properly, use a foam smoother to press the paper onto the wall. The best technique for this is to press down onto the paper moving out from the center to the edge. Do not press too hard as you may cause the paper to move or tear.

Un-Pasted
Same steps are followed as with Pre-Pasted wallpapers, however, you are required to use a paste in place of immersing the wallpaper in water. Refer to the paste package for instructions. If you need to purchase paste, PaintZone can provide you with the right paste for the job.
For best results, prepare the paste 24 hours before you plan to use it, this helps with adhesion.
